Daily Lessons Plans for 5th Grade and
Intermediate Science Teachers

   Energy Part 1 - Electricity and Magnetism Science Lesson Plan Calendar
Week One
Day 1 - Introduction to Energy and its various forms; use of a visual organizer

Day 2 - Introduction to the concepts and vocabulary pertaining to potential and kinetic energy; teacher demonstration,                  
               visual organizer to classify potential and kinetic energy and textbook reading

Day 3 - Lab investigation (discovery) to construct a series circuit; play "Electricity Game" to model how the flow of                      
               electrons creates an electrical current; complete a 2 minute "quick-write"

Day 4 - Introduction of new vocabulary; lab investigation to construct a parallel circuit from a series circuit; textbook                    
               reading; visual organizer to compare and contrast series and parallel circuits

Day 5 - Lab investigation "Stop, Slow and Go"; adds a switch to open and close an electrical circuit, identifies                              
               conductors, resistors and insulators

Week Two
Day 6 - Activities to compare static electricity to current electricity; textbook reading; new vocabulary; written                              
             summary

Day 7 - History of magnetism (audio-visual); teacher demonstration about magnetic  fields; lab investigation " Compass                 
             Direction"; create a magnet; textbook reading

Day 8 - Lab investigation "Discovering Electromagnets": construct an electromagnet and discover ways to increase its                   
             strength; investigate the relationship between electricity and magnetism; textbook reading

Day 9 - Review of Energy Module Part 1 in a cooperative group and rotation lab format

Day 10 - Student assessment
